Answers

Q - I use my vessel in European waterways, do I need ATIS Automatic Transmitter identification system programming into my Marine band Radio?

A - First you will have to email Ofcom's Licensing Centre with the following details:

  • the name of the licensee
  • the UK ship radio licence number
  • the vessel's name
  • the vessel's callsign
  • the vessel's MMSI number

Ofcom will issue you a special licence amendment.

Next, contact your Marine Radio Electronics agent for the ATIS to be programmed into your Marine Radio.

For more information on ATIS see ICOM's ATIS Factsheet.

Before purchasing a new Marine Band radio make sure it's ATIS compatible.
